England v Germany part 2!
This was arguably the tie of the round when the draw was made. You just can’t beat Champions League nights at Anfield, especially when one of the power houses of European football come to town.
Big problems at the back for Liverpool with Virgil Van Dijk suspended after his yellow card against Napoli in the group stage. This could mean Fabinho having to drop back from his natural midfield position. For the Germans Thomas Muller will miss both games after his red card against Ajax. There is no doubt who the bigger miss is though.
Liverpool were in scintillating form in the knock out stages last season smashing Porto, Man City and Roma on their way to the final in Kiev. Can they do the same here to Bayern?
My tip for this one is Bayern to qualify for the Quarter finals at 5/6.
I just think that Liverpool’s focus is completely on the Premier League, that is the trophy they want most. Being out of the CL will only help with their chances.
Add to that the Van Dijk suspension I just think Bayern might get those away goals that will be crucial come the end of the tie.
The other game comes from Lyon where Barcelona come to town. This looks like a forgone conclusion with everyone expecting the Catalonians to breeze through into the last 8. However, rewind a couple of weeks and Lyon beat PSG 2-1 and clearly have the potential to cause an upset in this first game.
When Lionel Messi spoke at the beginning of the season, he was clearly upset with how their campaign ended last season at the hands of Roma. There is a feeling of unfinished business in the CL. If we are being honest if Messi is on top form for this game there isn’t much Lyon can do, there isn’t much any team can do!
Barcelona to win at ¾ seems the obvious tip but I quite like Luis Suarez who was rested at the weekend to score anytime at even money.
