Overview
Probably best known to the general public as the name emblazoned across the shirts of Premier League side West Ham United, Betway Sports is another big betting site that falls just outside the select group of high street and online giants everyone has heard of.
There’s a lot to recommend Betway, from the feature-rich desktop and mobile platforms to the extensive betting markets, but is it enough to tempt the average punter away from the biggest brands? Read our detailed Betway Sports review below
Safety and Trustworthiness
Let’s get the easy part out of the way first. Betway is licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority and the UK Gambling Commission, which, combined with membership of IBAS (Independent Betting Adjudication Service), pretty much guarantees fair treatment for players from the UK and Ireland.
It’s also part of a gambling group that’s been around for more than a decade and legally serves nearly two million players around the world. So, all good. Right?
Mostly, yes. But Betway still carries a black mark against it over serious withdrawal and bonus clearance issues that occurred in its early years of operation. On the plus side, there is no suggestion that those issues remain a concern, and problematic bonus conditions, including that any winnings made with over 30% of a bonus amount would be voided, have been removed. The company has also worked with affected players to resolve old issues.
In our view, the positives outweigh the negatives, but every potential punter will have to make their own decision when it comes to their hard-earned.
Deposits & Withdrawals
Betway accepts all the most popular payment methods. You can deposit as little as £5 (to view a list of additional betting with low deposit limits visit our no minimum deposit bookmakers page) via Skrill, for example, but most payment methods allow a minimum deposit of £10, up to a maximum of £50,000. If you plan on availing yourself of some of Betway’s non-betting offerings, you’ll welcome how easy they make it to transfer funds across the different products.
Mobile
Like pretty much every other online bookmaker, Betway has invested heavily in the mobile market. When making the transition to the small screen, it’s usually a case of feast or famine. For Betway it’s certainly more of the former than the latter, as owners of Android– and iOS-compatible handheld devices are sure to get a kick out of this small, yet concentrated, mobile betting site. iPhone users can also get their hands on a bespoke Betway Sports iPhone app whilst android users will have to make do with betting from their phones browser.
What the Betway mobile platform does well is to bring over a wealth of markets to the portable stage, but still manage to keep things streamlined in the process. After booting up the mobile site or app on your mobile device, what will immediately become clear is that you have a wide range of betting options at your fingertips.
While it’s hardly the most innovative mobile sports betting platform that’s entered the PlayRight testing lab, there is no denying that it does the job, giving you the ability to fulfill all the same bets and functions as the full-fat site. Dropping all of the usual frills, Betway has crafted a very basic-looking mobile site.
Bet Offers
Betway’s free bets offer is a deposit bonus offer which requires a minimum £10 deposit. It pays out at 100% of the first deposit, up to a maximum limit of £10. The bonus becomes available in your cash account (as opposed to the ‘bonus’ account) once you have completed the relevant bonus requirements.
The wagering requirement is well within acceptable limits and the odds are set at a fair level. That’s still less than Evens, but offers the protection Betway needs to stand behind this offer long-term. The automated switching across of bonus credit once you’ve met the terms and conditions is also helpful, eliminating any doubt as to whether you can withdraw your bonus amount.
There’s always a reasonable selection of free bet and money-back offers on the go. These range from the Free Bet Club, which rewards players with £10 in free bets when they place £25 or more in football trebles in one week, to the NBA In-Play Special, that awards refunds players whose team loses (when the last score in a three-pointer).
You’ll also find enhanced odds available from time to time, paying out in free bets and at a better rate than standard odds. These tend to be restricted to select events or extended to loyal players only, but they do crop up from time to time to supplement the additional deposit bonus.
Speaking of loyal players, Betway’s loyalty scheme starts rewarding you for your play as soon as you join, with VIP trips, personal offers and gifts all part of the package once you reach the upper tiers.
Opening an account with the sportsbook also gives you immediate access to Betway Casino and Betway Bingo. You can also play at Betway Poker, but you’ll need to sign in separately to the Microgaming Poker Network and create an alias.
You can play through the bonus on casino games, but those wagering requirements jump from 6x to 48x the bonus amount.
Betting Markets And Odds Quality
Betway offers an extensive range of sports markets – somewhere in the order of 30,000. You can bet on all the most popular British sports, including football, rugby, greyhound racing and cricket, as well as the main international sports, including Wimbledon tennis, ice hockey, basketball, golf, boxing and many others.
There’s around 30 sports in total, which is nothing to write home about, although the depth is pretty good. You’ll find 100 lines, at least, on most top-flight football matches, and on the other end, you’ll find markets on amateur football too.
The sportsbook accepts both in-play and pregame bets and you can bet quite extensively on eSports, which Betway was among the first bookmakers to champion. The fact that they list eSports alongside the main products, such as casino, in-play betting, poker and bingo, in the main menu at the top of the home page speaks to how seriously Betway takes video game betting.
Odds quality is acceptable overall, but it doesn’t match perhaps BetVictor and Bet365. There are a fair number of enhanced odds offers, though, as well as a ‘best odds guarantee’ on race betting , which helps add some competitiveness to Betway’s offering.
It is also notable to mention that Betway is a great bookmaker for big bets, for more info checkout or top betting sites with high limits.
In-Play Betting
Betway makes no bones about the fact that it wants to be considered the very best name in the world of sports betting. Helping the brand on its way to the top is its in-play offering, which doesn’t disappoint. Bet365 is widely considered to be the leading bookmaker for live betting, but Betway can certainly give it a run for its money.
What makes in-play betting through Betway so different isn’t the markets and bet options (of which there are plenty to get stuck into), it’s the fact that everything is stripped back. No fuss, no nonsense, and no frills appears to be the aim of the game here and it works. While other brands commit to going over the top (we’re looking at your Paddy Power), Betway understands that it all about coverage more than anything else. Without all the usual flashy graphics getting in the way, Betway’s clean and simple live betting dashboard gives you access to a full range of events in just a single click. We like it a lot.
There’s a full in-play cash out feature available. You’ll see an icon, along with the current cash out value, next to any bets that are eligible.
In what is considered a long overdue move, Betway has also now welcomed live streaming into the fold, allowing you to watch and bet a selection of sporting events all in the same place – on desktop and mobile, but its currently far from Sky Bet and Paddy’s offering

Review Summary
There’s a lot to like about Betway. The question is, whether it offers enough to tempt UK punters. There’s no doubt that these days it’s a fair and safe place to play. And there’s no question that it offers a strong range of markets, a particularly nice in-play betting terminal, and very usable mobile app. But while the numerous licenses and 17 languages on offer should make it among the top choices for bettors around the world, we think Betway doesn’t quite match the very best online betting destinations for British punters.
