Overview
Genting is a brand that you have no doubt heard of, but perhaps not for the reasons we are writing this review. In 1965 the group was founded by a Malaysian entrepreneur who built a casino and leisure empire. In 2014, they decided that the time was right to build on their years of experience and launched their sportsbook product to compliment Genting Casino. They’ve built a solid product with good customer service and sleek design being partiuclar strong points but there’s still a lof of work today.
Safety and Trustworthiness
Genting have over 50 years of experience in providing a top quality service for gamblers. They are a publically traded company on the Malaysian stock exchange, and have a market cap of $37.67 billion US.
The sportsbook is run by FSB tech who provide turnkey solutions to gambling operators. This means that all of their markets are run, managed and priced by FSB, but they operate under the Genting bet brand. FSB also provide operational and tech support for the likes of 21bet, so can be trusted to supply reliable markets.
Aside from that, Genting is fully licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, which shows that UK players can have confidence that their funds will be safe. Genting are also a member of IBAS (Independent Betting Adjudication Service), who act as an independent adjudicator to resolve disputes between players and gambling operators.
Genting also use a customer deposit trust account. In short, this means that in the unlikely event that Genting go into administration, customer funds are ring fenced, and therefore, safe.
Deposits & Withdrawals
Genting provide a varied range of banking options, but they have kept things simple at the same time. Debit and Credit cards are the most common methods of payment, with instant deposits, and 3-4 business day withdrawal times.
Skrill is the only major eWallet accepted, so for those that prefer to use an online wallet this will be of particular interest. But it should be noted that a minimum deposit amount of £50, and maximum withdrawal of £50,000 applies to Skrill. Finally, the most unique feature of their banking is that you are able to deposit and withdraw cash through via one of their bricks and mortar casinos.
Mobile
The mobile app offered by Genting has been developed by FSB Tech and is a white label solution which is used by many sportsbook brands. As a result, it uses a trusted design which provides a quick, and efficient user experience. It is likely that you have used a replica of their mobile app on your device if you have a 21bet account.
Unfortunately, it is lacking in compatibility, and is only currently available on the app store for those with an iOS handset. But those with an Apple handset will be pleased to know that the full range of markets is available, with 26 betting categories on offer. Features such as In-play betting and cash out are also available, giving you the complete mobile betting experience.
Bet Offers
Genting’s new bettor offer is a £10 first bet insurance offer. If your first bet with odds at evens or greater doesn’t win you’re covered with a £10 free bet. Once handed out you’ve got 2 weeks to use the free bets and it must be placed on a line with odds no greater than 4/1. In addition, if your free bet comes in a winner you get the winning minus the original stake.
Overall this is an interesting new bettor offer, offering a different take on the typical free bets offer but most bettors may be asking themselves why not just go to a u.k bookmaker offering a straight up free bet to start with.
In addition to the free bets insurance offer, at the time of this review there was a handful of other promotional offers. One good one is their best odds guaranteed on the racing. Although contrary to what many punters think, this isn’t the best odds vis a vis other bookies, but rather that Genting promise to pay out at higher odds should the starting price of your chosen horse be greater than the price you backed it at. As always there’s Ts and Cs to dampen down this promo and it doesn’t apply to ante post bets, bets on international racing (unless stated otherwise), enhanced accumulators or any other special markets.
A Football ACCA Insurance guards you against the thing that every accumulator backer hates… when only one team fails to win. Just place a 5-team or more acca on any Football fixture, on any market, and Genting will give you your money back as a free bet (up to £20) if just one team lets you down! Please note that your free bet must be wagered on a selection (or combination of selections) at odds no greater than 4/1 (5.0). But this is still a very fair offer, and one that will attract ACCA backers.
Overall its not the most extensive of promotional offers laxking enhanced odds, price boosters but at least Genting is covering its bases with a free bets, ACCA and best odds guaranteed promotion.
Betting Markets And Odds Quality
Genting offer a good range of lines and markets, but there is a lack of depth, while all of the main markets are available, some peripheral markets are missing. For instance, when it comes to UK football, in the Premier League there are just 42 markets for a televised fixture. In comparison Betfair have over 100.
However, one good point is that in general the odds are favorable. Using the Premier League as an example again, Genting bet markets were among the best priced across the industry. This is usually the case for gambling companies that don’t offer a welcome offer – the saving is passed onto the customer in their odds.
In-Play Betting
It’s no exaggeration to say that live sports betting was one of the most revolutionary advancements in the betting industry since it went online. For in-play to work though it needs to be engaging and built as a key central product rather than an afterthought. Unfortunately, In Genting’s case it does feel somewhat like an after-thought, lacking the type of interactive experience you get with Betfair or Paddy Power Sports with regards to live match data and live graphics.
The coverage of the events and markets can certainly be improved too. At the moment there are just 5 sports available (Basketball, Football, Cricket, Tennis, Basketball), with the number of markets offered per event pretty low too.
To be fair though Genting Sport is a new sportsbook, and as engagement increases this area will be improved. In terms of usability, the platform works really well. It’s quick and doesn’t lag like some other data intensive in-play platforms.
Support
If there is one area in which Genting excel, it is with customer service and support for their product. The first aspect where this is displayed is by the fact you can’t ring Genting yourself. At first, that may sound like they’re hiding, but far from it. To spare you the hassle, and the cost, Genting insist on calling you.
The live chat aspect of the Genting Bet support is also very good. Unlike some other bookmakers, it is open 24/7. It’s great that they don’t discriminate against night owls!
Review Summary
Overall, Genting have provided an above average betting offering. But that isn’t as bad as it sounds, and your satisfaction will completely depend on whether you fit their target audience. It is clear that after 50 years in the casino industry, their main focus is with their world-wide land based and online casinos.
But what Genting have tried to provide, is a convenient sportsbook product for casino players to use, to save having to withdraw money and deposit it elsewhere. In this respect it works extremely well, and provides more than enough of an offering to satisfy your average gambler. This is demonstrated by the fact there is no sign-up offer with the sportsbook, but there is with the casino.
If your main focus is on having an all singing, all dancing sportsbook though, you’re probably best looking at somewhere like Betfair or Paddy Power. They have a greater number of markets for sports betting enthusiasts and provide a more tailored, interactive and entertaining experience.
One thing is for sure though, Genting like to take care of their customers, and their customer support is better than most.
