The look-and-feel of the average casino site has become pretty much standardized over the past two decades. Visit practically any online casino and you know exactly what you’ll get. That’s where Rizk comes in. Launched at the tail-end of 2015, this is a site that’s very much part of the group of casinos – Casumo probably the most famous among them – that are attempting to find a new way of doing things. Visit Rizk and you will find something different from the usual: A bold, streamlined site, innovative new ideas like the Wheel of Rizk, customer-friendly policies, and breezy, tongue-in-cheek presentation. Rizk may still be some way off its second birthday, but it’s clear that it means to make a splash in the online casino industry. Let’s see if it has the substance to back up its style with our Rizk Casino review

Safety and Trustworthiness

It’s right there in bold 32-point font on the front page of the Rizk website: “No bullshit”. Operated by the Gaming Innovation Group (GIG), the team behind the award-winning GUTS Casino, the site’s marketing is concerned with creating a more player-friendly environment by promoting transparency and fairness. So, you’d expect Rizk to tick all the boxes when it comes to safety and trustworthiness. And on the whole, it does.

There are licenses from the Malta Gaming Authority and the UK Gambling Commission, two of the best regulatory bodies in the industry, and SSL encryption to protect player data and ensure the site isn’t compromised.

If there’s one thing that we’d like to see, it’s more information presented about Return-to-Player percentages across the site. This is an area where there’s a lot of variation across the industry, so it’s not a major black mark. But the fact that we couldn’t turn up any info on this slightly contradicts that promise of transparency that’s so central to Rizk’s marketing. The operators of 888 and 32Red have set the standard here, with in-depth and up-to-date eCogra statistics published every month.

Perhaps more importantly, Rizk has an excellent reputation with players, and you’ll hardly find a word said against them if you visit the usual player forums online. Rizk carries a Deposit Guarantee Seal from advocacy site, The POGG, and uses the service as its official alternative dispute resolution service.

Deposits & Withdrawals

The list of deposit and withdrawal methods isn’t the longest, as a minus there’s no PayPal, but you get debit/credit card, Neteller and Skrill, so the most popular options are covered. There are also instant withdrawals to e-wallets. A big plus point for Riz is its innovative new withdrawal locking feature to speed up withdrawals.

Bonuses

Rizk welcome new players into the fold with a 200% bonus up to £100, giving you £150 to play with from a £50 deposit. This is a bonus that can be claimed with a deposit of as little as £10, so it’s especially suitable to more casual players.

Although Rizk promises transparency, you actually have to seek out the bonus terms and conditions in the footer of the site if you want to dig into the fine print (yes, we know they promised no fine print). Most other sites link directly to the T&Cs from the bonus promotional materials, which we think makes it easier for customers to get the information they need.

Anyway, once you’ve located the document you’ll discover that Rizk gives you a good 30-day time limit to meet the 45x wagering requirement. In meeting that playthrough, slots contribute 100%, classic slots contribute 75%, and table games are set at 10% playthrough contribution. Money wagered on video pokers doesn’t contribute to wagering requirements at all.

All pretty average, really. The 200% match is good, the x45 wagering less so. It’s not the best bonus out there, for any type of player, but it’s far from the worst, and shouldn’t dissuade you from giving Rizk a go. Skrill and Neteller deposits aren’t eligible to receive the bonus, which pretty much limits you to a credit card (or debit card) deposit, if you want to claim the bonus.

Game Selection

To get to the game selection, you first need to click on the Games icon located in the very short left-hand menu (it’s the only menu on the site and contains just four options – Games, Rizk Insider, Wheel of Rizk and Live Chat).

That takes you to a well organized grid of games divided into categorised rows. If you’ve used Netflix, you’ll know exactly what to expect. Some of the categories are straightforward, like Table Games, Live Casinos and Progressive Jackpots, but others are vaguer: Best for British, Hollywood, Horror, Action and Adventure, and so on. There’s also an excellent search function to narrow things down, as well as the ability to browse games by software provider.

Regarding game choice Netentertainment is the primary software provider here, which will be sweet music to the ears of most slots fans. Rizk also sources games from a handful of other providers, including Play’n GOMicrogaming, Yggdrasil, NYX Gaming, Quickspin, and BetSoft. That means you get a dazzling array of slots to play, including Starburst, Jack and the Beanstalk, South Park: Reel Chaos, Grim Muerto, Thunderstruck II, and several progressive jackpots, including Mega Fortune and Mega Moolah.

If you’re a table game fan, but prefer virtual games to the live dealer variety, then you’re probably not going to be satisfied by the selection on offer here. Of 13 blackjack games offered, eight are live casino iterations. The roulette selection is even more weighted towards live dealer games, with only three RNG games to play (European, French and American). Its a fact that slots are the most popular types of online casino games but we don’t like to see virtual table games pared down like this.

Live Casino production is handled by market leader, Evolution Gaming, as well as NetEnt, so there’s no danger of getting a sub-par product here.

Mobile App

In keeping with the stripped back nature of Rizk’s desktop interface, which eschews the multiple menus, sub-menus, downloadable clients and other stuff that weighs down the typical casino site, Rizk’s mobile product is equally streamlined, and it works very well because of it.

There’s no app available, either for iOS or Android, which is a minus posint for us. Instead you simply visit the usual site URL via your phone’s browser. But what a mobile site. It looks good, with every element optimized for mobile use, and overall it’s a joy to use.

Other than the screen size and touch interface, you get the same slick experience as on a PC, with the game catalogue slightly reduced (no Flash on mobile devices, so it’s HTML5 only).Still, the 260 games that make it across to mobile is first class, with only Leo Vegas offering a bigger library. The NetEnt touch games are, as always, an absolute pleasure to use on mobile.

If there’s a downside, it’s that the range of table games is even further reduced from the few available on the full site, with only one non-live version of roulette, for instance. At least the Live Dealer selection is pretty healthy, with a selection of games from Evolution Gaming and NetEnt that includes multiple versions of roulette and blackjack, as well as baccarat, three-card poker and Caribbean Stud Poker.

Promotions

A quick scan of Rizk’s promotions page, labeled Rizk Insider, will tell most experienced players that this is not the site to join if you like to take advantage of ongoing bonus offers and promotions on a regular basis. There just isn’t a lot going on compared to competitors that sometimes have a dozen or more promotions happening simultaneously.

However, Rizk does have on major trick up its sleeve, The Wheel of Rizk. It’s a neat spin on the loyalty points system, whereby players fill a “power bar” by playing on the site, and receive a free spin on the Wheel of Rizk once the bar is completely filled.

The wheel contains several different possible prizes, including cash, free spins tokens (which come in three different values (Free Spins, Super Spins and Mega Spins), and the Double-Speed Chip, which when activated sees your power bar fill twice as quickly for a limited time. There are no wagering requirements associated with these prizes. You just need to avoid the skull icon, or you’ll walk away with nothing. Each time you fill your power bar you move up another level, and the prizes available improve. From Level 10 onwards you get the chance to land a Jackpot.

The other ongoing promotion on Rizk is the Rizk Race, which is a simple leaderboard based on player activity. It awards cash prizes to the top 250 players, and free spins and chips to the top 1,250 players.

Aside from the occasional short-term promo, that’s about it. But who really needs more underwhelming casino offers with dubious terms and conditions? Rizk achieve their aim of encouraging players to spend more time on site, while we get straightforward, honest, and achievable offers.

Review Summary

From the deliberately silly, tongue-in-cheek brand identity to the stripped-out user interface, Rizk is certainly a casino that lives up to its name. It could all have gone horribly wrong for GIG if they’d misjudged the market or mishandled the messaging. But luckily for us, Rizk was anything but a misjudgment.

The reason it succeeds, though, is not because of the amusing branding, or even the much-touted Wheel of Rizk, but because it gets the basics just right: user-friendly platform, instant-play games from the very best developers, and first-rate customer care. The fact that it feels like a breath of fresh air in the online casino industry is just the icing on the cake.
